Enabling JavaScript in Common E-mail Readers

If you have attempted to use SafeMail. To, but clicking the Decrypt button doesn't cause any change in the message, then JavaScript is not enabled in your mail reader. (If the message changes when you click the Decrypt button, but it's still unreadable, then JavaScript is enabled but you didn't enter the correct password. You must use the same password that you used to create the form.)

Please note that many of the popular Web-based e-mail systems such as Yahoo.com and Mail.com/Email.com intentionally disable JavaScript in messages, and there is no way to re-enable it, so these systems will not work with SafeMail.To. If you are using some other Web-based e-mail system, the easiest way to determine if SafeMail. To will work for you is to send yourself a test message using the form at the bottom of the home page.

Following are instructions for enabling JavaScript in some popular e-mail readers. (Different versions of these readers may be slightly different in the details, but are probably similar.) For more information about these readers, please check the documentation or visit the vendor sites.

For other readers, please check your documentation, the vendor's site, or search the Web for instructions.

Outlook 2000 (v9)

  1. From the menu bar, choose Tools, then Internet Options
  2. Select Security Tab
  3. Under Secure Content, select Internet Zone

Outlook 2002

In Outlook 2002, the default View mode is "Restricted sites" and JavaScript is disabled. JavaScript is always disabled in the Preview panel, but if you double-click a message to open it in a new window, then under the "View" menu, you can select "View in Internet zone." If JavaScript is enabled in MS-IE, this setting should enable JavaScript in the mail messages. Although there is supposed to be a way to change the default view mode to "Internet zone" (under Tools -> Options -> Security -> Zone Settings) this feature has a bug in early versions of Outlook 2002. It does not enable JavaScript, but it does successfully remove the "View in Internet zone" option from the "View" menu, so you can't use that method, either. The safest thing to do is to leave the "Restricted sites" mode setting, and when you have a SafeMail. To message, open it and then select View -> "View in Internet zone."

Outlook Express

  1. From the menu bar, choose Tools, then Options, then Security
  2. Under Virus Protection, then under Select the Internet Explorer security zone to use, select Internet Zone (less secure but more functional)

Netscape (Mozilla) Messenger

  1. From the menu bar, choose Edit, then Preferences
  2. Select Advanced from the list of options
  3. Click the box to Enable JavaScript, then the box to Enable JavaScipt for Mail and News
Note for Messenger Version 6 users: You should either upgrade to Messenger Version 7 or upgrade the Java Virtual Machine with Java J2E 1.4.0.

Eudora

  1. From the menu bar, choose Tools, then Options
  2. In the Options window, scroll down and choose Viewing Mail
  3. Click the box to Allow executables in HTML content
